Hoogies commenced trading on a greenfield site at 8 Bell Street, Yarra Glen on May 1, 1978. The primary focus was hardware sales and range was quickly expanded to include timber, plumbing and building supplies.
In 2001, we purchased an additional shop at 14 Bell Street, and plumbing and domestic hardware was sold from here, allowing more space for timber and builder’s hardware from the original premises.
In 1985, a 1 acre vacant site was purchased at 9 – 15 Bell Street/Lot 47 Farrell Avenue. Premises were constructed on this site, the original properties were sold, and the consolidated business began trading on the new site in 1987.
In 1999, Hoogies added a Rural Sales Department, focusing on viticulture supplies. After growing spectacularly within the Hardware premises for 7 years, a dedicated Hoogies CRT Rural Showroom was built on the adjacent site at 57 King Street in 2006. Additional roof cover was also provided for the timber yard, and sand and screenings bins were constructed.
In November 2012, Peter England took over from Frank Hoogenraad as the new owner and operator of Hoogies of Yarra Glen. Frank, founded Hoogies 35 years ago and will continue to serve as a Consultant for the next five years to ensure a smooth and successful transition.
